This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an educator committed to nurturing the holistic development of my students, I am excited to embark on a project aimed at creating a vibrant and inviting reading corner that doubles as a space for social-emotional learning (SEL) in my classroom. This initiative is designed to provide my students with a warm and welcoming environment where they can explore the joys of reading while developing essential social and emotional skills.

The reading corner will be a sanctuary for exploration, imagination, and discovery.

Picture this: a cozy nook adorned with colorful rugs, bean bags, and shelves filled with a diverse array of books that cater to the diverse interests and backgrounds of my students. This space will be a refuge for quiet reflection, shared storytelling, and collaborative learning experiences.

In addition to fostering a love for reading, the reading corner will serve as a hub for SEL activities and materials. I aim to incorporate a range of resources that promote empathy, resilience, mindfulness, and conflict resolution. Through carefully selected books, games, and activities, my students will have the opportunity to enhance their emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
