This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My third graders at K. Elementary are a vibrant, curious, and resilient group of learners. They come to school every day ready to dive into new challenges, whether we are exploring the wonders of science or getting lost in a good book. At this age, students are transitioning from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," and their energy is infectious. They truly thrive when they feel that our classroom is more than just a room—it’s a second home where they feel safe, valued, and inspired to do their best work.

Currently, our classroom is lacking some of the "creature comforts" that make a learning environment feel complete.

A large, inviting classroom carpet is my top priority; it will serve as the heart of our room for morning meetings, collaborative group work, and immersive storytelling. Beyond the rug, having essential supplies and a few cozy additions—like flexible seating or organized bins—will allow my students to focus less on the physical discomfort of a cold floor or a disorganized desk and more on their academic growth. These items aren't just "stuff"—they are tools that help maintain focus and foster a love of being in school.

My goal for this project is to build a high-functioning, "student-centered" environment from the ground up. By providing a comfortable space for us to gather, I hope to increase student engagement during group lessons and strengthen our classroom community through shared experiences on our new rug. Your support will help transform this room into a sanctuary of learning where my 3rd graders have the resources they need to reach their full potential.
