This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I provide speech-language therapy for students in an urban setting who have a variety of learning strengths and challenges, including autism and other developmental disabilities. Each and every one of my students is special and unique. The students participate in life skills and transitional programs to prepare them to be independent and successful adults. We practice skills including how to foster and maintain friendships, obtain jobs, and live independently. Our students are a shining light in this school and deserve all the best!

My Project

My students are a dynamic group of learners who require support for language understanding and use. Having access to more communication supports will allow my students to increase their participation and progress in their life skills and job transition classes! Communication devices give students a voice and allow them to express themselves in a way that might otherwise be too difficult.

Communication supports will give my students the ability to participate more actively in their education.

My hope is that through access to a variety of communication modalities, my students can more easily ask questions, make comments, joke with their friends, and improve their overall self-expression.
