How can we ask students to be engaged in their learning and collaborate in projects together if they do not have furniture conducive to doing either of these things? What if there was a way to foster a learning environment for all students to become collaborative learners, while still having their own personal space?
My students are kind, helpful and very supportive of each other.
They love to work in different places depending on what they are working on and like to be constantly active.
My Project
My students would benefit from new desks as the current ones we have are not great! Our current desks are single desks so do not fit well together to give students space to work together. In addition, they are not all the same height and are wobbly so not sturdy to work on. The new desks mean that up to six students can work on one desk together. They also adjust in height so I can change them depending on the needs of the students. Also, my students would be able to have more resources and materials on their desk when they are working.
We are requesting four large desks that will allow students to work together in pairs or groups on one desk.
Working in this way has been proven to raise attainment as they are supporting each other. Your generous donation to our project will improve our Third Grade classroom by building a stronger learning community. This will change our students' lives for the better. They will love school and feel success through encouragement from each other --- having fun while learning!
With the addition of the desks, we will have a positive buzz making school a great place to be! On the whole, students will be much happier. Thank you for helping my students become better collaborators, more supportive and more confident.
