My students need additional flexible seating options in our classroom to allow them to build core strength and provide differentiated configurations in our classroom for more effective collaboration.
I teach third grade in a public school in Michigan. I strive to create a classroom environment which promotes collaborative learning.
My students spend their days exploring, analyzing and collaborating.
I would like to allow learners in my room the opportunity to choose the seating that best meets their individual needs. Providing additional Hokki stools (which are made to allow rocking/wobbling while sitting on them) will allow students to build core strength, allow for movement based sensory input which aids in engagement and easily move around the room.
My Project
Two years ago my classroom transitioned into a flexible seating, collaborative learning room. It has been a wonderful change, allowing students choice of seating gives them the freedom to learn in their best space. Hokki stools strengthen core muscles while allowing students to move as they learn. In order to have a successful collaborative classroom, students need to have empathy and acceptance. I have also included some wonderful new picture books for read aloud that teach these important lessons.
Watching the learners in my room consistently choose Hokki stools first in our collaborative learning space, I would like to add more.
These additional Hokki stools will add options for my students to choose to maximize learning, thinking, collaborating and creativity. They are easy to reconfigure as we often move around for group projects and partnerships. The books will aid in my goal to have empathetic students that show acceptance to every child.
