Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What is a Spanish immersion school? "Utah Dual Language Immersion Program uses a fifty-fifty model, in which students spend half of their school day in the target language and the other half-day in English"
My school is a Spanish immersion school so these supplies will be used by students who are learning a foreign language.
My students walk into my classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what we are going to learn today about Spain, Guatemala, Mexico or Peru. They are ready everyday to learn a new word, a new sentence which allows them to communicate with people from other countries. This allows them to be a better citizen.
Also, my school is close to an Air Force base so we teach military kids.
My students are 5th and 6th graders (63 in total). 63 active learners who are looking forward to starting a new adventure in the 21st century learning process.
My Project
Real flexible seating for me means creating spaces where students feel comfortable to work, spaces where they can collaborate amongst themselves. Why do we want to have a traditional seating arrangement if the approach that we are using is not teacher-led anymore? We are using a student-lead approach where the teacher is the guide in the learning process and the students are the ones who take responsibilities in their learning journey so we need to adapt our classes to this approach.
We need to adapt our classes to the student-led approach that 21st century teachers use.
Companies have changed the way that they work. They are not thinking in the past anymore, they are thinking in the future. If these big companies are changing the way they work. Why do we teachers not change the way we organize our classrooms? Why are we using the same things that we used to do 100 years ago?
On this basis, I want to transform my class into a real 21st century classroom. We are getting a lot of trainings about 21st century skills and how to include them in our classes, our teaching skills are changing, we are becoming better teachers, but our classrooms are not improving with us, we need to use our classrooms as a tool to enhance these skills and spark the 21st century learning process of our students.
My plan is to change my classroom and create different working spaces for my students where they can work on their projects and collaborate well among them. I have one computer for each of my students, so I will be able to implement a blended learning approach based on differnt apps such as Microsoft Teams, Nearpod, Flipgrid, Teams or OneNote.
