My students love to create! When given the chance the build and play with materials, my students can create the most amazing things! I have seen towers out of jelly beans and toothpicks over 2 feet tall and a paper chain created from one sheet of paper that can stretch over 50 feet! These examples are from my third graders!
There is a large push towards STEM and STEAM in the educational world and I would like to provide my students a chance to create with a 3-D pen.
The options to extend their learning in our classroom is infinite.
Technology today is such an intricate part of our world today. Most of the jobs my third graders will have as adults have not even been created yet! Now that stat is hard to wrap my head around! Many of my students are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and have limited experiences with technology and STEM tools outside of the tablets, phones, and gaming systems that are common in households.
I would love to provide a technology based creative outlet in the classroom with the use of 3-D pens.
These pens are safe for elementary students because there are no heated parts that would cause injury. The kits also contains templates for them to use as they get the hang of the pens. Students can use the 3-D pens to create aspects of a diorama for a book they are reading or they can create and examine shapes and angles in math class. Students can also learn about historical landmarks or land forms and create a model.
