For many of my students, this is their first experience in school. I want them to love coming to school and to love learning. My students have severe special needs and require specialized instruction. The principles of applied behavior analysis are incorporated throughout the day.
All students can learn and the environment they learn in should be comfortable, safe, welcoming, and supportive.
My students spend part of their day included with typically developing peers. Many of my students are learning how to communicate and be social with their peers. Using the principles of applied behavior analysis, they learn the skills that they will need to be able to learn within a group setting.
My Project
The gathering drum and boomwhackers will be used during circle time. Students will practice taking the lead in a group as well as following the leader while playing different beats. The boomwhackers will also be used for students to identify colors and length and to follow directions.
"Blast off!" The rocket launchers will be a fun activity for students to practice making verbal comments during play.
The hot potato game, pop up pirate game and ice cream pretend play set will be used to promote peer to peer interactions such as turn taking, waiting, requesting from others, passing to others, and commenting during play.
