These have been out during choice time for students to play with, and they seem to particularly enjoy having the different animals crash into the structures that they build (cause-and-effect practice). The crocodile and the lion are the most popular because the crocodile's jaws open, and who doesn't like to give a good lion \"roar?\"\r\n\r\nI greatly appreciate your donation! These animals will tie in nicely as we learn about habitats in our upcoming What a Wonderful World curriculum unit this spring, where each week we learn about different animals based on where you would find them (farm, ocean, zoo). The MagnaTiles themselves are providing opportunities to problem-solve as students engineer different houses and structures. We've practiced sharing and turn-taking as some animals are more preferred than others. These toys have been loved so much that I requested a second of each set. Soon, we will have multiple of each animal as waiting can be challenging when you are three years old.\r\n\r\nThank you again for supporting my students' learning!","fullyFundedDate":1759431613941,"projectUrl":"project/building-brain-power-in-preschool-full/9736887/","projectTitle":"Building Brain Power in Preschool: Full STEAM Ahead","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Becky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6915624_orig.jpg?crop=1375,1375,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753200214758","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missbeckyscubs"},{"teacherId":6915624,"projectId":9208429,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom! I received the pillows when this project was funded, which feels like forever ago; however, we just got the pillowcases in last week. We are using the ALERT and Zones of Regulation programs in our Social Emotional Learning curriculum this year and have been teaching about feeling low, just right, and high, as well as what the different color zones mean for feelings.\r\n\r\nThese pillows are not only cozy, but they help provide students with strategies to get back to a \"just right\" learning body or \"the green zone\" where they feel happy and calm. Students have been exploring the pillows since they were added to our break area. We returned to school after a week-long break in April and had these on the table as a new play center. They were extremely popular! It was even more exciting to see how students were naturally sharing the different dinosaurs. This is a skill we've been practicing all school year, so to see that with novel toys, they could wait and take turns with only minor adult facilitation after having not been in school for a week, was great progress! \r\n\r\nI loaned the cars' Magnatiles to another classroom so different students would also have a new play choice to explore. These students were using creative problem-solving, building roads, stacking ramps, and having races with the cars. The Magnatiles have kept them busy and provided the STEM learning that I had hoped!\r\n\r\nPlay is so important at this age, and we are thankful for your support of our students!","fullyFundedDate":1744032813344,"projectUrl":"project/creativity-and-problem-solving-through-c/9183173/","projectTitle":"Creativity and Problem-Solving through Cooperative Play using Magna-Tiles","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Becky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6915624_orig.jpg?crop=1375,1375,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753200214758","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/missbeckyscubs"},{"teacherId":6915624,"projectId":9047277,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation! These books were read during our \"What a Wonderful World\" unit. We enjoyed listening to the story \"Jabari Jumps\" as part of a lesson on perseverance, bravery, and problem-solving. Jabari has to conquer his fear of diving off the high dive, and with encouragement from his father, he is able to do it, and he is so proud of himself afterward. Students enjoyed identifying an activity they could do that made them feel proud. \r\n\r\nThese books were given out to other teachers in my school, so multiple classrooms were able to enjoy hearing the stories read and acted out. Dear Zoo is always a favorite. We have students write letters to the zoo and complete a coloring page based on which animal they would want for a pet. The Kids Book of Diversity has been shared through the classrooms as well, highlighting differences in our bodies, abilities, homes, and family traditions while encouraging respect, empathy, and kindness. The book speaks to the powerful message that we may not be the same or like the same things, but we can all support one another with the same kindness we'd want to receive.\r\n\r\nYour generosity is greatly appreciated. The materials have been arriving and I'm making up sensory bins to be delivered to each classroom (14) at my school later this afternoon. I hope teachers will offer these fidgets to students as a way to help them maintain focus while at whole group activities or when students need to get additional sensory input in a safe, quiet way. These fidgets are small and easily fit in a student's hand so they are not visually distracting for their peers. \r\n\r\nWe talk a lot about how \"everyone gets what they need to succeed.\" By having these resources available in every classroom, we are teaching our students that if an additional support will help them, it is a strategy they can use.
