My Students

My school serves PreK-5th grade inner city students. Teachers collaborate to effectively plan instruction across the grades. We are focused on incorporating STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts, math) into the curriculum. In addition, my school is creating classrooms in which students are working hands-on in the classroom, and are learning through project based learning as well as sharing their ideas, solutions and strategies. This will help to create students that are lifelong learners that think about solutions, and make connections to their world.

My students are four and five year olds excited about learning new things, and through play experiences they will build the foundation for all learning.

They are in their first year of elementary school, and for some it may be their first official school experience and It will filled with opportunities for exploration and discovery. I am excited to have the opportunity for my students with teacher support, and guidance to build in the block area, look at books in the class library, create in the art studio, act out stories in dramatic play and simultaneously explore STEAM across centers. I am also looking forward to sharing their learning with families across the year.

My Project

These material will make it possible for me to have the supplies I need for the curriculum and also some additional books to add to the classroom library. As I think about this past year my students made these amazing boats out of clay. They were engaged in this activity and it allowed them to create a boat that would float. That is why clay is on my list to again provide that experience to a new group of students. I also have kinetic sand on my list to allow children to build structures using molds and create a city out of sand. A really big price item on my list are the discovery tubes that will allow them to see science concepts such as sink and float and create opportunities for children to discuss these concepts further at the discovery table.

A great deal of the items in my cart are art supplies that I no longer have available and need to restock.

I chose these items because they are part of the small group instruction or center activities after looking over the curriculum these where the materials the class needed. In the fall we always do a unit on the five senses and they enjoy making scented pictures using the scented markers. During small groups they make their names using dot markers and practice learning the letters of the alphabet the formation and sounds. In addition in my classroom students have drawing and writing journals and that box of crayons will come in handy as students begin to draw and write over the year. All of the items in my cart will provide opportunities for children to learn through hands on activities.
