My students need one bean bag with replacement pellets and gears to stimulate STEM skills of problem solving, perseverance and stamina in a new quiet zone.
I teach in a high needs school that houses an all-inclusion autism program, developmental preschool and Head Start preschool, plus special education students, and students who speak 36 languages are in every grade, K-8. This means we have challenges at every turn, including limited funding. Providing an equal and equitable education is our motto and our goal for each student using every sensory modality!
We are always seeking well-researched, successful ways to help our eager-to-learn special needs or language learners.
Our vibrant kindergartners come with sensory issues, language learning needs, and limited outside opportunities due to the inner city concerns within their community around our school. We are dedicated to eliminate these blocks to their learning success!
My Project
In a newly created quiet zone, an added bean bag chair, and a new STEM bin of gears will allow young students to engage, to problem solve, to create, and to challenge themselves. Students need both time and a designated place to recharge themselves. This newly created time and place with new stimulating, engaging materials will add a promising and enticing reason to promote both calm and challenge that is so necessary in this busy classroom community. Students will come to this designated quiet zone to calm themselves and do activities that will buid self confidence while providing an alternate route away from others for a brief period.
This designated quiet zone is a space utilized by high need students to take time away from the hustle of a busy, purposeful classroom to calm, to center, to renew and to recharge themselves.
Added seating and new enticing materials designed to stimulate trials in problem-solving will promote a new avenue for self-worth. You would provide the link to making it all happen!
