As this school year is winding down, I am starting to create my schedule of STEM projects to use with my 3rd graders next year! We don't have a formal science curriculum at my school, so I try to incorporate monthly STEM projects to allow my students to put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test.
STEM education is such an important part of my classroom, but the consumable materials that we require make it difficult to execute these fun activities.
I would hate to limit these projects due to the cost of the supplies. So I'm turning to DonorsChoose for support!
This year, we built Mayflower boats that had to hold 102 "Pilgrims" or pennies, without sinking. We created marble run boards with paper towel or toilet paper rolls! We even made bird feeders out of recyclable materials for Earth Day! All of these projects require various supplies. The popsicle sticks, duck tape and rubber bands all help my students create and hold together these projects. The clipboards will be used to help hold their “blueprint drawings” of their build. The scissors and cardboard cutting tools will allow my students to break down their cardboard boxes to use them as materials as well. Of course, paintbrushes will help us decorate our creations in the end.
