Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my third-grade class begin school with varied abilities. Math and reading can be challenging to an average student and may seem impossible to a student functioning below grade level. My students work in small math and reading groups and could benefit greatly from games and materials to allow groups to work independently as well as with a teacher.
The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more you learn, the more places you'll go.
-Dr. Seuss
My students are hard working third graders, with a powerful drive to succeed. They have varied abilities and need different levels of support to achieve their goals. My school has an enrollment of 671 students from PreK through sixth grade. We have a diverse population with a large percentage of English language learners and special education students. The majority of our students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
My Project
My students benefit from word walls within the classroom. We currently have a bulletin board for our math word wall and are in need of a bulletin board for our English Language Arts program. The second bulletin board would be ideal for displaying student work.
Equally as important to displaying work, is the step before, creating the work for display.
Crayons and markers provide my students the chance to create their projects. At least half my students begin school without the adequate supplies due to economic hardship. Providing crayons and markers will give each student the advantage of having school supplies.
