My Students

My sweet students are a great class. They are kind to one another, sensitive about what happens at our school, and eager to read and learn.

While they are diligent and motivated workers, many students have gaps in regulating emotions, and reading independently and would benefit from practicing those skills in a safe environment.

My Project

The classroom library is the place where students naturally want to go to help themselves get calm in the classroom. As a first-year teacher, I have stocked it as well as I can, but I am missing several things that will help it be more inviting to students.

The items from Lakeshore will help me create a space inside the classroom where students can practice regulating their emotions while reading independently.

The floor cushions, book display, and leveled books will help the library to be inviting as well as educational for students who go there for strategic breaks or have finished their work early.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
