This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of the biggest challenges teachers are facing in the high school classroom is keeping students engaged. I want my curriculum to have more readings that speak directly to teens and exposes them to real life issues. The novel "Crazy Loco Love" by Victor Villaseñor explores themes of identity, family, culture, and personal growth. It offers a multi-faceted exploration of life and relationships, providing students with an opportunity to reflect on their own identities and the people and culture that shape them.

Through the protagonist's journey, students can explore the concept of personal growth and transformation as the story illustrates how experiences, relationships, and introspection contribute to one's development as an individual.

The novel provides a deep dive into Mexican-American culture, showcasing the complexities and richness of this heritage. By reading stories that reflect their own experiences or those of people from their communities, students may feel a greater connection to the material, fostering a deeper engagement with reading. The characters in the novel face various challenges and obstacles, illustrating the themes of resilience and perseverance. Students can be inspired by how the characters overcome adversity and pursue their goals despite setbacks.

The students will be able to use the books in class and at home. I plan to create classroom assignments that will help them practice the skills they must master in our English class.

My students are amazing people who always try their best to do well in school. They are motivated individuals who face many adversities yet continue to strive in order to achieve the goals they have set for themselves. They are very deserving of having access to these books. The relevancy of these books=will help keep them engaged and learning.
