We are a fairly new high school surrounded by miles of desert and fields. The closest bookstore to our students is about 30 miles. Our high school is in a high poverty area. The majority of our parents are field workers who make minimum wage and many times can't afford to invest in books because they are barely making ends meet. At our school we have a beautiful and new library but many of the shelves are half empty. We have a very energetic librarian who loves to promote reading but our limited book supply and budget restricts how much she can do. However, with the few books available we have found ways to put high interest books in their hands. We love to encourage a life long love of reading.
