This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like as a child when you discovered a subject you became so interested in that you couldn't put it down?
My art students attend a Title I urban school, where many of the students have disabilities.
The art students have discovered the world of cartooning. This past school year fourth grade students created graphic historical novels - combining history, English and art. They became engrossed in creating the graphic novels and are now very interested in a variety of cartooning styles.
My Project
Students have been requesting more art lessons using a variety of cartooning styles. I would like the students to be able to have cartooning books available for their use in the art classroom. My school's art budget is tight and I can only afford the basic art supplies for my art students. If the cartooning books were funded students would be inspired to create more graphic novels - encouraging them to be creative and to use their imaginations.
These supplies are important to my students.
The donation will make a difference in the lives of many students because they will be used for many years to come. These supplies will allow students to be creative and reinforce their literacy and writing skills.
