This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I can't tell you how excited I was to learn to read "The House that Jack Built" in Kindergarten for the first time. I was grinning from ear to ear, and I LOVE providing my own students with that same love for reading. There is nothing more special than to teach someone how to read! Reading opens so many doors.

Recently my current school became a "Title I" school, which means we have over 50% free and reduced lunch.

The area in which my school exists is a wonderful community-based area and my students are WONDERFUL!! My students absolutely LOVE reading and hearing others read to them. Most of my students are not blessed enough to have a lot of reading material at home. It is a joy to watch their faces light up when they read a NEW book! It is my desire to increase the amount of reading material in my classroom, because the "volume of reading is the key success."

My Project

Upon receiving these new books and audio books, my students will be able to have access to a larger volume of reading. With the audio books, my students will be able to hear fluent reading, which will increase their reading fluency. Both types of books will help my students gain an appreciation for books and foster a LOVE for reading. The wide range of genres and ability levels will appeal to each individual student and will promote even the lowest performing student to love reading.

The books will be used to provide an authentic and diverse education to today's students, which will impact tomorrow's society! I cannot wait to see my student's faces light up when they receive their new package of brand new books! Thank you so much for your support!
