Crazy About Learning! Preparing for College in 2nd Grade!
My students need leveled books and Reader's Theater scripts to help us prepare for college. We are going to videotape ourselves after we practice reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom family constantly says, "We are preparing for college". Everything we do in our classroom centers around this belief. My students know that in order to learn they must have the "fire of learning" in their hearts and in their heads. We cannot reach our goals without community support.
Our school is a public urban school in North Carolina.
Our school is 90% free/reduced lunch. Many of my students have parents working 2 or 3 jobs in order to make ends meet. Because of this, many of my students lack adult help at home for reading and literacy support. All of the students in my class are minority students. Many of my students are fluent in more than two languages. My students often teach their peers in their native language in order to help them to understand a concept. My students are passionate about learning and are excited each day to learn and grow. My students have a great relationship with one another and we refer to our classroom as our family. The support due to this belief is amazing and truly makes a difference socially and academically.
My Project
Although I teach second grade, many of my students are on a kindergarten reading level. I am seeking additional resources in order to help them work towards their reading goals. I am asking for help in obtaining more books for my classroom. With these items we will have more books for our classroom family to take home each night. We also spend a lot of time working with a program called "Accelerated Reader". These books will allow us to read interesting books, write a book report, talk about what we've read, and take a test on the computer. Finally, I am seeking Reader's Theater scripts to inspire my students to become better readers. Through Reader's Theater we will be able to read and "act out" scenes with a partner. As the teacher I plan on filming students so they can watch their performances. It is my first full year as a classroom teacher so my resources are limited. However, I don't want this to hinder the growth of my students.
These items will help my students to grow and work towards their dreams of going to college.
I have watched this year the excitement in my students eyes as they hold a new book free of tatters and marks. If you are passionate about something it will show in your work. I hope these new tools will inspire my students to be their best while loving learning.
