Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school in East San Jose. A majority of my students are first-generation Americans with hardworking immigrant parents. Eighty percent of the students at my school are receiving free or reduced-priced lunch.

I teach a wonderful group of Kindergarten students.

My students are hard working and enthusiastic learners. They are easily motivated and enjoy attending school every day. They are always excited to try and learn new concepts. My students inspire me every day to be a better teacher.

My Project

I believe that art is an essential part of student learning. Art encourages student creativity and freedom of expression. My students love to draw, color and write. This was not true at the beginning of the school year. Many of my students started the school year unable to hold a pencil much less draw. Now, they are wonderful artist. They are able to color and draw anything they put their minds to. I try to foster the love of art and writing in my students.

My student enjoy drawing and coloring but sadly the crayons and color pencils that we have are now dull or broken.

Many of the sets are also incomplete. Your donations of crayons and color pencils will allow my students to continue drawing and coloring. We will also be using these materials to create books. Students will illustrate and write their own stories, just like an author.
