Our library media center is the center of our elementary school. Students enjoy coming to the library to work on projects and enjoy reading books for personal learning or pleasure.
We are a Title 1 funded school in a small rural community with 61 percent of students on free and reduced lunch.
Our students enjoy reading a variety of books and the school library is where the majority of them get their daily reading material. The nearest library for most of our students is ten miles away and for many that is too far to travel because of cost and distance. Many students visit the media center on a daily basis.
My Project
Help us help our students to satisfy their craving for a good book from a book vending machine. Our students enjoy reading for both pleasure and learning. They enjoy going to the media center to see what new books are there and choosing just the "right fit book."
Our students will be able to satisfy their craving for reading a good book by being able to select their own book to keep from the book vending machine.
The goal is to increase literacy in our school by offering students books to keep at home in addition to the library books they check out.
Each student will be given a golden token to place in the book vending machine to choose their "right fit" book to take home.
