My students need 25+ craft supplies so that they can continue working on find motor skills while showing kindess to those in our school building and in the community.
We may never produce artwork like that of Picasso or Thomas Kinkade. However, with a few resources our students can put together the cutest crafts this side of the Mississippi!
I work with a wonderful group of special needs students.
Currently, I teach 8 students in a self-contained special needs classroom for students with Moderate, Severe, and Profound Intellectual Disabilities. Despite their individual challenges they come to school everyday with smiles that are contagious. Some of my students are very verbal and others completely nonverbal. Regardless, they are all very special.
My Project
It has been my mission that regardless of the challenges my students face that we will place an emphasis on serving others. The resources that have been requested will go to working on students fine motor skills by making things for others. This is an excellent opportunity for these students to work on much needed skills as well as provide a fun way to give to others both in our school and in the community.
With these resources we will be able to work on so many important skills. Students will be able to use their learned skills to create things of which they can be proud. During this past year we have made paper flower bouquets, holiday decorations, lapel pens, gifts for families, and many other items. Unfortunately our supplies are running low. These resources will enable the class to do so much more. My students need craft supplies so that they can continue working on fine motor skills while showing kindess to those in our school building and in the community. Supplies like glue, tissue paper, beads, and craft foam will really make a difference.
During these tough economic times funds are being spent for what is considered "necessities" such as curriculum.
Well, I feel like this is a critical component to my students "curriculum." They may not be learning to read novels, study the holocaust, or use a protractor, but by creating things for others, they are learning to use scissors, recognize colors and shapes, measuring, following multi-step instructions, and most importantly they are having fun doing for others.
