My 9th-12 graders come into the library for all kinds of reasons. Some can't wait to check out that next Percy Jackson book in the series, some want a quiet place to study, and others are just looking for an adult to take some interest in them and the things they care about.
This is the first year these kids have had a librarian of any kind, so they didn't have any experience of their library as anything more than a storage room.
They are just starting to discover that it can be an exciting place with endless possibilities.
My student workers love making posters and brainstorming book displays highlighting their favorite books. They are creative makers, but they are lacking in resources and tools to push our outdated library to become a more welcoming space for this generation.
My Project
Our library is slowly making the transition from book and computer warehouse to a place where students are encouraged to explore, create and discover. We need a makerspace to reflect that goal and give them open-ended opportunities.
The Cricut Maker is the first step in this process of making the library a place students want to be.
It will provide them with tools to make amazing class projects, attention-grabbing library decorations, signs and posters for school events, take-home items like t-shirt iron-ons, signs and gifts and more.
The packs of vinyl, fabric and pens will give us access to more of the abilities of the Cricut Maker so that the only thing students are limited by is their imaginations. Your donation will provide new opportunities for students to discover and develop their creativity.
