My Project

One of my favorite memories as a kid was learning how to make my own paper! It was such an exciting experience and one that stuck with me. It was also a wonderful way to learn about reusing and recycling materials. I would love the opportunity to gift my students with the tools to make their own seed paper. My plan is to have students collect recycled paper from around the classroom and their homes to bring it up to school. We will then create our paper paste and use the plastic bins to mix it with water. The screens will allow students to dunk and pull their own paper creations in a neat and organized way. The wildflower seeds will then be able to be added to make the paper plant able for an extra gardening project.

Process art that also teaches sustainability is a double benefit of this project!

Students will be able to practice process art through choosing their paper patterns and colors. They will also learn about the process of recycling and reusing by bringing in scrap paper which we will sort and prep for papermaking. This project will be tied to learning about using natural resources, sustainability, creating products, working on fine motor skills, and so many other wonderful things.
