This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have started my second year as the classroom teacher for a 3rd through 5th-grade special day class for students with moderate to severe disabilities. I absolutely love teaching and learning with these students. My students are diverse learners who need to be engaged during the learning process in many different ways. My students love to read, engage in hands-on learning, and play with their peers. Some of our favorite activities include reading together, doing sensory art projects, interacting with math story problems, and learning with our peers in general education. My students are a very enthusiastic group who work very hard and do their best in anything that they try.

My Project

I teach a 3rd-5th grade special day class for students with moderate to severe disabilities. I have an amazing group of students this year who work best when given hands-on instruction with many opportunities to practice and apply their skills. We start each morning with a community meeting followed by a science, social studies, or social skills lesson. We then engage in literacy and math lessons until the afternoon when we do arts and crafts, cooking, or yoga. This project will help me provide arts and crafts supplies that are engaging and hands-on.
