My Students

My students are a wonderful group. They go to school in New York City where most classes are completely full. However, each day I am greeted with smiling faces ready to learn. They come to school eager and excited to tackle the day's challenges. Each of my students are struggling readers who are at levels at least a year and a half behind grade level. As a teacher it is my job ensure they are cared for, listened to, motivated, encouraged, empowered, safe, respected and above all happy. They are taught to believe in themselves and accomplish anything and everything they put their minds to. My classroom is their safe place.

My Project

My students will be using the MacBook Air to complete computer programming projects both during class and during free periods. Students will work on designing new games through coding as well as play already created games to gain ideas and experience through model examples such as Minecraft and Tube Rider.

I want to connect further connect my students as well as the English Language Arts curriculum to the outside world.

If I want to engage and challenge them, I need to connect their education to their lives, I need to be able to provide a computer that they can use to research and retrieve real time information. The Internet has become the primary source of information, place of collaboration and platform to share. In addition, computer skills are inevitable in today's world. A computer in the classroom offers an abundance of possibilities to brighten up the lessons I am teaching.
