Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have the illustrious honor of teaching a group of first grade students that have been identified as being at-risk learners. However, when you walk into our classroom, you would never know it! Our room is filled with rigorous opportunities to collaboratively explore and celebrate their learning!

In our quest to become and International Baccalaureate school, we genuinely embrace the mission of Atlanta Public Schools, "With a caring culture of trust and collaboration, every student will graduate ready for college and career." With that preface in mind, my objective is to facilitate learning experiences that will encourage my students to ponder and explore the concepts we are learning.

As result of these efforts, my kids truly seize the challenges that are presented to them and I aim to captivate their minds daily. My students enjoy hands-on activities that utilize many aspects of technology. They are extremely excited about learning, in spite of any deficits that they have. "All children can learn and can be taught. If you can not learn the way that I teach, then perhaps I can teach the way that you learn.", truly epitomizes my philosophy of education and drives me to explore ways to meet the needs of my students.

My Project

In addition to supporting the mission of APS, I also recognize and embrace the efforts of Atlanta Public School's CLL Grow. Lead. Transform. Ensuring that my students GROW academically, become LEADERS of their own learning, and TRANSFORM those opportunities into real-world experiences is no easy feat. However, with the support of partners in education like you, I am confident that it can be done. My students will use Bee-Bot Robots to crack the code to learning robotics, ultimately preparing them to be productive leaders in the 21st century. Our Bee-Bot Coding Club will be used to develop problem-solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills, all while having loads of fun! More importantly, my students will be encouraged to take risks as they collaborate to solve problems together. My goal is to develop a community of learners that aren't focused the correct answer, but the process of getting there. This club will serve as an arena developing a love of problem solving.

With the support of partners in education like you, our Coding Club would be able to come to fruition.

More importantly, my students will have infinite opportunities to collaboratively develop and hone problem solving skills, as they work towards a common goal..academic success. Your donation will truly make the difference in the lives of a group of children that love learning, in spite of the academic challenges they face. I sincerely want to THANK YOU for being a partner in education!
