This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The demographics at my school consist of Black: 65%, Hispanic or Latino: 30%, White: 2%, English Language Learners: 11%, and students with special needs: 33%. Most students come from low-income households or live in foster homes and shelters. Many families are single-parent households or working families. We are a Title I school in Harlem. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. The students at my school are a mixture of different types of learners.
My class is self-contained special education.
My Project
My students need coats! In previous years, there were organizations that donated coats to our students, but this year they wanted the school to pay for them. Many students are still wearing coats from previous years. Some of these coats are worn out. The students in my school deserve to wear new coats to keep warm during the winter. Coats are a necessity and some of the students and their families are not fortunate enough to have the means to buy them new ones, especially after being home for the majority of the winter season last year.
My students need coats to help them stay warm from the elements, and prevent the possibility of them being sick during the school year and consequently missing school.
Please help in this effort to supply our K-2 grade students with coats, as they will ensure our students will make it to school and stay healthy so they don't miss out on learning.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
