Help me give my students writers notebooks, novels that they have requested, and a candle warmer and wax melts to make our room more cozy for the winter months.
Welcome to our English Language Arts classroom in Gwinn, Michigan. Our high school is tucked in the pines in the beautiful and remote Upper Peninsula.
My students are quirky, fun, and high energy.
I teach 10th through 12th graders whose interests range from playing sports to participating in drama camp to showing farm animals at the county fair. I love to nurture a passion for reading and writing and to help students develop their voices. These teenagers have a lot to say to the world!
My Project
My students do daily independent reading, and many of them have requested new books in series or by their favorite authors.
Jason Reynolds' books are very popular as are graphic novels.
The wax warmer and melts are to give our classroom a better smell and a more cozy atmosphere. When students walk into the room, it will smell like roasted espresso.
I am requesting a noodle bowl because students in after-school homework lab sometimes like to make Ramen noodles or microwavable mac and cheese, but we need a bigger bowl for that.
The magnetic bar is to hold our broken snack cabinet door shut, and the magnetic hooks are for hanging our hall passes.
Finally, we need new writers' notebooks for second semester, as well as tabs for organizing the sections. Students keep their daily notes in these writers' notebooks including journal entries, literature terms, vocabulary words, grammar exercises, and their reader logs, but our current notebooks will be filled by next semester.
