Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work for a Title 1 school. Our students come from all ranges of socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school offers free breakfast and lunch to all of our students due to the huge need. Some kids aren't able to buy all of their supplies. I, like many other educators in the building, are working with a very strict budget and while we would love to provide our students with all the things they deserve and need, it is hard. This is especially true when we do not have the financial resources that other schools have. Donors help bring smiles to my students' faces every day through the donations made and the materials purchased through DonorsChoose.org.
My students come to school knowing this is their second home.
I would love to have a warming and welcoming meeting area for my class to meet throughout the week. These kids love learning and I only want to continue to provide a welcoming classroom environment.
My Project
Our current rug is gross, and being at a school with low-income kids, our funds have to go to other resources that will aid in the growth of these kids. Funds are spent on books, classroom supplies, technology, and math resources. I spend my money on other things the classroom & kids need as well, so it’s really hard to find the funds for things like a new rug. I really want the kids to want to come to the rug to do a whole group lesson, and engage in a discussion. A new rug would help make the kids excited about having to meet at the rug versus the reaction I currently receive.
Our classroom is our second home and in order to continue to have that welcoming environment, I feel a rug is necessary, especially for students who look forward to being able to move around and get out of their seats.
Our classroom is very vibrant and I try to incorporate as much color as I can. I feel that this rug will allow my room to just pop even more and will spread the cheerfulness that I felt when looking at the rug to anyone that walks into my classroom. I have also added some book bins to aide in the storage of our small group and workshop materials. These are all things that every classroom should have.
These materials are also things kids have asked for and have talked about. Our classroom is already a better place thanks to DonorsChoose.org donors.
