I am a cross-categorical teacher for kindergarten and fourth grade students, meaning I teach special education, in a district that is predominantly low socioeconomically. Our classroom is used for small groups of students to work on language arts and math at their own level, for students to take a break when they feel overwhelmed, for students to get one-on-one attention and focused instruction, for general education students who need a quiet place to work, for students to work on their IEP goals, and the list goes on.
Our classroom is a safe space.
Our classroom is for learning at our own levels. Our classroom is where we go when we need a minute before challenging ourselves to "catch up" to grade-level peers. Our classroom is where we spend a lot of time learning each and every day.
My Project
Do you love to read? We do too! My classroom has many eager readers looking for a cozy place to read a book. I believe having a reading area with twinkle star lights, a rug, floor lamps, and, most importantly, bean bag chairs, will encourage my students to take their reading to the next level!
My special education students need a special place to read at their own level.
A place where it doesn't matter that the book they can read is a D Level. A place where they feel comfortable spending time patiently sounding out each word. A place where their love of learning to read feels special.
