Do you remember being five or six years old? I have difficulty remembering much as a five year old, but my 29 kindergarten students remind me each day! They come to school full of energy, ready to learn, and eager to please.
I teach at a Title I school in which 65% are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
Despite the deprivation the students face, they come to school with smiles on their faces. These children dream each day about becoming doctors, firefighters, superheroes, ballerinas, baristas, and teachers.
A new classroom carpet would be a comfortable setting for learning. In our kindergarten classroom, we use the carpet on a daily basis for the whole group and small group instruction. Students can often be found reading a story while lying down or engaged in a lesson.
A classroom carpet is a place where community building and learning take place.
The students listen to stories told by the teacher, discuss story details with each other, and predict story outcomes. Math concepts are also learned while seated at the carpet for calendar time.
The alphabet on the Under the Sea Alphabet carpet will help enhance student learning of the alphabet and its order.
