My Students

I moved to first grade this year after 13 years of teaching kindergarten. I was nervous about the change, but I absolutely LOVE first graders! They love coming to school every day. They are more mature and have quick wit and a hilarious sense of humor! My students have a wide range of abilities and knowledge, from still learning letter sounds to reading on a 2nd grade level. They live and go to school in a rural area.

I teach at a Title I school, and all students receive free breakfast and lunch.

There are approximately 500 students in my school in grades pre-k through 5.

My Project

A cozy carpet area is a staple in most early elementary classrooms. A carpet area provides students with a comfortable alternative to sitting at tables for every learning activity. Students love sitting on their very own carpet spot for story time, morning meetings, team-building, and center time. Nice carpet areas bring much-needed warmth and comfort to classrooms. It is important for students to feel at home and comfortable during their long days at school. Carpet time also helps to build the sense of community in our classrooms.

Carpets are expensive items that often aren't paid for by school districts.

But, they are solid investments that will be used for many years to come. My last carpet lasted for 14 years! It is now time to get a new one so that my students can benefit from it the way that all of my former students did.
