Each day, they get the chance to have a flexible seating option to meet their sensory needs. While students work independently, they get to choose an area in my classroom to enjoy their flexible seating. It improves their focus and their comfort level. Having my students feel safe and comfortable in my classroom is something that is very important to me and this project helped me create an environment that does exactly that. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw these materials, they were incredibly excited and grateful when I explained to them that these items were donated. They ask almost every day when we are going to be able to get out the flexible seating during class. \r\n\r\nMy next steps are to continue using this for my current and future students while also continuing to build on my resources of meeting their sensory needs. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your donation. They are practicing real-world engineering and problem-solving skills in ways that feel authentic and meaningful. The filament turns creativity into something tangible.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is watching their digital designs slowly take shape layer by layer. There is a sense of anticipation in the room every time a new print begins. Whether they are creating sight word reward tokens for kindergarten buddies, designing pieces for stop motion animation projects, or experimenting with original creations, students feel empowered knowing they are the designers and makers. One of our favorite projects has been printing small incentive tokens for our sight word team to give to their kindergarten buddies when they master their sight word lists. Instead of just earning a sticker, these kindergarten students receive a custom 3D-printed prize designed and created by older students. It has turned reading achievement into a school-wide celebration. The STLP students feel proud knowing they are creating something meaningful, and the kindergartners are extra motivated to practice their words so they can earn a special printed reward made just for them.\r\n\r\nBeyond that, the 3D printer has opened the door for creative, hands-on learning experiences. Our students are using it to design and print props, characters, and set pieces for stop motion animation projects. Rather than simply consuming technology, they are learning how to design, problem-solve, prototype, and revise their ideas. They are building skills in creativity, engineering, digital design, and collaboration. For donors who may use technology mainly for entertainment or productivity at home, in our classroom it becomes a tool for critical thinking and real-world application. Students must measure accurately, adjust dimensions, test prints, and reflect on improvements—skills that connect directly to math, science, and technology standards.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is seeing their ideas come to life. There is something powerful about designing an object on a screen and then holding it in your hand. Some of our quieter students and those who don't always shine in traditional academic settings have especially connected with this technology. We have seen students who struggle with written assignments become deeply engaged when working in design software and troubleshooting print challenges. The 3D printer has created a space where different talents can shine, confidence can grow, and innovation feels possible.
