Seeing their confidence bloom has been such a joy! Your kindness has brought laughter, learning, and a true love of reading to our classroom.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your generosity and for believing in our little readers. (Nurturing Essential Skills for Tomorrow) at Waco Elementary. Because of you, almost 500 students can now:\r\n* Practice daily living skills by safely storing ingredients, preparing healthy snacks, and learning food-safety routines.\r\n\r\n\r\n* Experience hands-on science and math as they measure, sort, and track food temperatures while exploring concepts like states of matter and nutrition.\r\n\r\n\r\n* Build independence and confidence by planning menus, budgeting for groceries, and cleaning up after each activity; skills that will serve them for life.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe refrigerator is already in use during our weekly rotations. Just last week, preschoolers were practicing opening milk cartons that I collected from our cafeteria's share table, and stored in the refrigerator until I had enough for each student. Their excitement was contagious as they realized they could open them independently and no longer had to wait for the teacher to make their way around the lunch table, opening milk for each student. \r\nOlder students are currently studying kitchen and food safety. They are extremely excited for our first cooking lesson after fall break. Each 5th grade classroom created a list of food options they would like to learn how to prepare. I narrowed those options down, accommodating the cost of ingredients, difficulty of the recipe, and ability to prepare them using the appliances available in our classroom. The lower grades will cast a vote for their top 3 favorites. For the remaining 8 months of school, we will learn to prepare the top 8 choices from that poll. \r\nYour support doesn't just keep our food cold. I made sure to request the large box the appliance was shipped in when the delivery drivers brought the refrigerator to the room, and our younger students have loved crawling through the box \"tunnel\" to enter the classroom! It will eventually become a station in our Minds In Motion gross motor course for all students to enjoy. Your support provided a surprise two-for-one bonus. \r\nOn behalf of every child who will open this refrigerator or crawl through the delivery box and discover the joy of learning, thank you for believing in our project and our students' futures. Your kindness is helping us nurture essential skills for tomorrow, one lesson at a time.","fullyFundedDate":1749147729639,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-chill-out-for-life-skills-learni/9238301/","projectTitle":"Help Us Chill Out for Life Skills Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tucker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2654898_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1749237374757","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2654898"},{"teacherId":2258796,"projectId":9315674,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our STLP students have been able to dive into the exciting world of drone technology. So far, we've begun learning the basics of flying the drones and practicing control through simple obstacle courses. Students are already building important skills in patience, precision, and problem-solving as they take turns navigating the drones around cones and through small gates. Even at this early stage, they are realizing how much focus and teamwork it takes to be successful.\r\n\r\nWhen we first opened the boxes and introduced the drones, the classroom was filled with pure excitement. Many students were in awe and could hardly believe they would get to fly real drones at school. That initial joy has turned into determination as they carefully learn how to manage the controls and work together to keep improving.\r\n\r\nOur next step will be to expand the courses and introduce more challenges as students grow in confidence. They will begin designing their own flight paths and exploring creative ways to test their skills with the obstacle materials you helped provide. We're so grateful that you've given our students this opportunity—they are not only having fun, but also building a foundation in STEM that will serve them well into the future.","fullyFundedDate":1746730203489,"projectUrl":"project/help-our-cardinals-take-flight/9315674/","projectTitle":"Help Our Cardinals Take Flight","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Evans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2258796_orig.png?crop=1024,1024,x0,y139&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746788207988","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kevans"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_58520","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":411,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":80,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":75.1,"schoolId":58520,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Waco Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Waco Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/kentucky/madison-county-school-district/waco-elementary-school/58520"}
