This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a 2nd-grade teacher in a high needs, low income, Title I school. Our students are primarily English Language Learners. Our school is 70% ELL and 100% free lunch/breakfast for all students.
I have an incredible group of 26 students this school year.
We are currently teaching virtually but soon we will be going hybrid. Every day these students will walk into the classroom eager to learn and ready to face any challenge that's put in front of them. Students spend long hours at school every day and, yet, every single day they're excited to be here and ready to take on whatever is put in front of them. It truly amazes me how determined and dedicated these young minds of theirs are.
My Project
Due to these unfortunate times with living through a pandemic . Our school decided to start the school year with virtual learning. We however will be transitioning to a hybrid plan in the next few months. I am beyond excited to get to finally meet my little ones in person and have them be able to fill the classroom with joy and love.
This is our schools first year opening and our classroom is in need of a classroom rug for cozy learning during whole group time.
Our school is very big on collaboration and team building. One of my most favorite times of the day is during silent read aloud. The students get to sit all together on a carpet and enjoy a nice read aloud from one of our favorite books. I also love watching the kids after a long day find themselves relaxing on a the carpet while working on their assignment. Having a classroom carpet will make such an amazing difference in the classroom learning.
