Cozy Calming Outdoor Spot

Help me give my students a calming area for the outdoor classroom. Providing a designated area for calming with sensory items will help them to process emotions appropriately.

My Project

The students of Moulton Head Start come from very diverse backgrounds. The students lack the skills to self-regulate and identify their emotions. This lack of language can be presented as challenging behavior. Our goal is to give them the skills and strategies to express their needs appropriately. One of the main strategies we use is a calming area.

Giving our students a comfortable, cozy, and the calming area will teach children how to recognize big emotions and how to safely self-regulate.

We believe this is one of the greatest School Readiness Skills we can teach our students before kindergarten.
