My students are energetic and intelligent second graders. They amaze me year after year with how much growth they make at 7 and 8 years old. "My students crave reading good books and having a comfortable place to do what they love.
I would love to foster more of a love for reading and learning by creating a comfortable space for my students to grow as readers.
Our community is economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse. Our school offers immersion education in two languages: Spanish and Japanese. I teach a Spanish immersion class where approximately half of the students are non-native learners. Each child brings a diverse set of experiences to the classroom.
I believe all students need to feel safe and comfortable in their learning environment. In a world where their daily routines are seemingly in fast forward, students need to have a place of calm where they can go to center themselves and be able to escape through or connect to a good book. Comfortable chairs and a comfy couch that I have selected will help create a calming, comforting reading nook in the classroom. I believe being able to give my students seating options will help reach all styles of learning in my classroom.
As we continue to face increased budget cuts, our school relies heavily on community and parental resources.
Please help us create a comfortable place for my students to grow as readers.
