My students are a diverse and vibrant group with many interests and talents. I teach at a Title I school, which means that most of my students come from low-income families. There are many challenges and stressors in the lives of my students, and I strive to provide a structured and nurturing environment where students feel safe and supported.
My music class serves as an outlet for creativity; a safe place to explore music, work together, and build confidence in their voices.
It is my job to provide these students an active and comprehensive music curriculum that engages them and challenges them. In my class, students play drums, mallet instruments, learn rhythms, sing solfege, and play games that build their musical skills. My goal is to provide both a fun respite from classroom work and a framework for building music literacy.
My Project
Music class is a place where students refresh, connect, and play in a safe and structured environment. This rug will make a huge difference with transitions, classroom organization, and safety. Currently, my classroom has tables for group work and learning activities, as well as a large tile floor space for musical play and games.
We need a rug in my classroom to provide a comfortable and organized space to commune and play together.
The squares and colors on the rug will provide a clear way for students to identify their own space and the carpet will provide comfort as well as noise reduction for loud music activities.
