Mr. Huben from Clarksdale MS is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need larger size, preserved cow eyes in order to examine the structures of the eye in greater detail.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are fantastic! Both energetic and passionate, they have a strong desire for learning and for exploration. They would be ecstatic to have the opportunity to use a scalpel to dissect and learn about the inner workings of the eye!
My students truly desire new experiences.
Being from a high-poverty community, they are too often deprived of learning opportunities, such as dissecting a specimen to enhance their study of the human body. This hands-on activity provides an opportunity to inspire our students! Almost all of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. They are such great kids and deserve all the help and kindness that we can provide them. They will be truly grateful for this opportunity! They will remember it forever.
My students will use the cow eyes to examine the external and internal anatomy of the eye. For example, they will be able to view the iris, cornea, lens, pupil, retina, and the optic nerve. They will be able to trace the path of light as it enters the eye and as it leaves as a signal through the optic nerve! This will enhance their retention of eye anatomy and physiology.
Donating to this project will help over one hundred students learn and have fun through a hands-on science experience.
This type of experience will (1) be remembered by the students for the rest of their life, (2) increase their awe for the human body, and (3) hopefully inspire some to consider pursuing careers in the health and medical sciences!
