Ms. Farnet from Baltimore MD is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a tablet to use to continue their education during the COVID19 pandemic! These tablets will become their primary source of education, allowing them to communicate directly with teachers and access invaluable online information.

My middle school scholars explore not only their academic inquires but also their social and emotional needs in our self-contained special education setting. At our Title 1 school, students combat a multitude of challenges: poverty, community violence and unstable home environments in addition to managing their unique disability. They do this head-on, never discounting their personal expectations for success. A self-contained setting is a classroom that supports students with disabilities requiring services away from the general education population. Although they are removed from this setting due to their intellectual or emotional needs, my scholars are just that: scholars. They work diligently to improve not only their academic selves but also their interactions with peers.
As we combat COVID19 together, we are also fighting against lack of technology, funding for homeschooling materials and communication tools required to continue their education.
As we think of the future of education, we need to consider the existing gaps in resources not only for students living in impoverished communities but also for scholars with disabilities. With your help, all scholars can receive a proper education, no matter their socio-economic status or abilities.
When COVID19 hit the United States, many education systems had a simple answer: tele-education with technology. However, most systems did not factor in the resources required for scholars attending a Title I school, students that have limited access to technology and therefore limited access to education during this time. These tablets will address the gap in resources, bridging the divide between poverty and a quality education. Devices allow scholars to have access to me, their teacher--as I provide not only grade-level instruction but also support for their disabilities--and learning apps such as Google Classroom, KhanAcademy, and Freckle. Technology grants them access to an incalculable number of educational resources at their fingertips.
Our scholars living below the poverty line, especially those with special needs, deserve a high-quality education, no matter the circumstance.
As our time away from the classroom elongates, students with exceptionalities face even greater struggles than their Gen Ed peers. Without a proper means of communication, I cannot teach; nor can I administer their accommodations and modifications they require to access grade-level material. Without technology, they cannot even access instructional-level materials that address their deficits in reading, writing, and math. The tablets target all facets of their continued learning, increasing contact with instruction as well as an infinite number of online programs. Your contribution helps address a system that takes technology for granted, and you ensure that all children have educational devices, fostering hope and progress during this unprecedented, uncertain time.
