This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first graders are awesome! They are explorers and they are constantly on the move. I constantly emphasize the importance of being safe, being kind, being respectful, and being responsible each day in our little classroom. I work with 21 amazing and hardworking students who are extremely eager to learn, participate, and support each other's learning throughout the day.
Our school is a Title I school that serves many military families that are connected to Fort Bragg and 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and we are a low wealth district in Cumberland county.
My class is full of students with a variety of interests, experiences, needs, and strengths. With the resources, structure and the need to apply their curiosity, they will continue to develop into strong learners and balanced individuals. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I really try to provide meaningful and memorable experiences for them every day.
My Project
This school year is not ending as I had hoped. I haven't seen my class since March 14th in person. I continue to daily mourn all of the activities that we will not do at the end of the year. I am all the more determined to celebrate my students successfully completing first grade.
I would like to give each child a book called "I Wish You More." This book celebrates life's joyous milestones, shares words of encouragement, and highlights the importance of observing the wonder of everyday moments.
This sweet and uplifting book is perfect for my students during this difficult time. I will write a personal message in each book. This will be a book that they can cherish and keep for the rest of their lives.
The books, certificates and goody bags listed in this project will allow the Champs to have some of the normal end of the year things even if we don't get to return to school. The gift bags would be used to neatly present end of year items on the outside of their homes since we don't get to return to school.
Thanks in advance for thinking about my wonderful first graders. I will truly never forget them.
