My school is located in a very small rural area where most students come from a low-income/high poverty background. Among the many challenges they face in their daily lives, both in and out of the classroom, our area was recently affected by a major hurricane. Many in our community, including teachers and students, suffered major losses to their homes and property. Despite the the obstacles in their way, my students still have big dreams and they are eager to learn and grow. My dream is to create an environment in which these students can worry less about their problems and more about fostering their dreams for the future. I would like to be able to provide them with a space that not only encourages their aspirations but also makes the learning experience meaningful for each student's individual learning style.
My Project
On any given school day my classroom supports the learning of over one hundred amazing sixth graders. These kids dream big and work hard towards their goals. However, many of my students do not have the most basic supplies needed to be successful in the classroom on a daily basis (paper, pencils, tissue, etc). The products I have selected will allow them access to these basic supplies and ease their worries. It will also help my classroom be a place fosters a meaningful learning experience and provide each of my students with the resources they need to reach their full potential and finish off the school year strong.
