Cover Those Trumpets! Help Us Clothe Our Naked Instruments.
My students need drum mallets and trumpet cases, since many of our cases have have fallen apart due to wear. Some of my trumpet students cannot take their instruments home as a result.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Music has been the lifeline of the my community, a community plagued by the ills of poverty. This hamlet, which once produced talented music groups, now struggles to maintain a functional music program. Our students and faculty work hard to maintain what we have, but we need your help.
I teach in a high-needs area in the New York.
My students are 3rd-5th graders of African American and Latino descent who attend school despite facing many difficulties at home. Many of them come from single parent homes, in which their sole parent works 2 or 3 jobs. Many come from homes that receive welfare; 80% of our school qualifies for free or reduced lunch. They attend a school district that often lacks the resources necessary to educate all of them. Teachers are frequently asked to use their own money to purchase basic resources for the class. Our district has been cutting teacher positions and district services for four years. The school band itself survives by student and teacher contributions, as it does not receive any funding from the school. Despite this adversity, my students routinely volunteer to take on the responsibilities of being a member of the school band. They dedicate themselves to practicing and learning music, while still living up to my high expectations.
My Project
I have requested 4 trumpet cases. These cases will allow 4 of my students to take their instruments home. Many of them are not able to rent instruments on their own, so the school supplies them with instruments. Unfortunately, most of the instruments in the school's inventory are over 10 years old and shows signs of wear. I frequently have to eliminate children from band due to a lack of playable instruments. Many of our trumpet cases have simply fallen apart due to routine usage, forcing students to have to leave their instruments in my classroom instead of taking them home to practice.
Band is a highly regarded class in at my school. In our class, students work diligently toward proficiency on their instruments. It is my pleasure to teach such a group of willing students, but it is also my duty to find ways to fund the needs of the band. The new trumpet cases and drum heads that I have requested will create a large boost of morale for the students who are in the class.
Many of my students struggle to see the importance of school.
Many local parents haven't finished high school, making it difficult for them to provide their children with concrete examples of how school can be beneficial. The high school graduation rate for the district is about 30% of the ninth grade class. Band is the reason that many children attend school. Music is the class that many of them look forward to most. This project will ensure that band class keeps that position for my students
