My Students

I have 22 students this year in my kindergarten class. They love learning and collaborating with one another. My goal is to make learning fun, instill a growth mindset, and set the stage for lifelong learners who can achieve anything they set their minds to!

I teach at a Title I TK-5th grade school in Northern California where over 40% of our population receive free or reduced-price lunch.

We have over 500 students, many who speak a language other than English at home. Our school site is working hard to bring personalized learning into all classrooms so each student's individualized needs are met.

My Project

My kindergarten students are working on counting skills and different ways to show numbers. They need visuals and practice manipulating ten frames, using number lines and seeing numbers to 120 to achieve the skills needed to have a strong financial literacy foundation.

The magnetic ten frames will allow students to see patterns in numbers and practice counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.

This will support them in counting pennies, nickels, and dimes. Having each student with a whiteboard with a ten frame, 100’s chart, and number line will give them tools to use when needed to support these foundational skills required to be financially literate.
