Help me give my students the Learn to Count Picture Puzzles, the Fill It Up! Fine Motor Jars, and Count & Link Kit to build motor skills and number sense while having fun in preschool!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I have chosen a variety of fine motor skill-building materials to help my developmentally delayed preschoolers build fine motor muscles for hand strengthening and hand-eye coordination all while gaining number sense. Many of our students have delays in cognition, motor skills, language skills, social skills, and/or adaptive skills, therefore working with the materials chosen for this project will guide them in building these skills. Working their fingers to move puzzle pieces, and lacing the Thread-O-Ball, connecting the links for the Count & Link Kit and the Magnetic Color Sorting set will provide exciting opportunities to build fine motor muscles, and build number sense while learning through play!
These struggles and obstacles are just roadblocks in our eyes for we aim to provide our special needs preschoolers with opportunities through rich experiences with interactive puzzles and counting manipulatives to overcome these challenges.
Through small group activities, the students will have access to these materials where they will learn through teacher modeling, peer modeling, and opportunities to practice. Practice gives students time to build hand-eye coordination and fine motor muscle strength as well as repetition with numbers.
