We made a calendar to mark off each day until we reached Hatch Day on Day 21. We learned about each stage of development along the way and prepared an enclosure for our chicks. We excitedly awaited the arrival of our sweet fluffy friends. \r\n\r\nThe baby chicks started hatching and were all hatched in two days. We watched, observed, and took care of them. The children learned how to care for the chicks and loved watching them grow! They grew very quickly over the next few weeks! \r\n\r\nAfter watching the chicks grow we worked on finding them all homes. We said goodbye to our babies and wished them all well. Adding one more glockenspiel makes it possible for every partner group to have their own instrument- which is a huge help in every child getting a turn to play! The students were so excited for their chance to play the new instrument! \r\n\r\nWe have needed new sandblocks for a long time- the ones we have currently are missing part of their sandpaper and don't create the proper sound. Because of your generous donation, we now have 12 brand new sandblocks! Because of your help, we were able to purchase 8 new hand drums! Students have already begun using them in class to practice reading rhythms! The addition of 8 drums makes it possible for each student to have their own drum without having to wait a turn or share with another student! \r\n\r\nThis month we have been focusing on improvisation- the skill of making up a rhythm or melody without prior practice. Students have been using the drums to experiment and explore different rhythms and sounds. The resources that I was able to purchase have given me so many new ideas for my classroom! With Kindergarten, we have been using many of the fingerplays from \"The Book of Fingerplays and Action Songs,\" and they LOVE it! The ideas in \"First, We Sing!\" have also provided me with lots of great songs and activities for all of my classes. \r\n\r\nWe just started a new unit with K-2 on high and low, and the songs and movement activities in \"The Book of Pitch Exploration\" and \"The Book of Movement Exploration\" are wonderful resources! Starting in February we will be using \"Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?\" found in \"The Book of Songs & Rhymes with Beat Motions\" to explore steady beat and improvisation.
