My Project

My first graders are developing their math skills, including counting. Every week students do "Counting Collections," during which they count a set of items and show how they got their count. This is an important practice as it helps students develop number sense, practice one-to-one correspondence, and learn how to organize and group their items to skip count.

My students will be more engaged in their counting if they have more engaging and exciting items to count.

While they've happily counted the school supply items I've given them so far, my first graders will be more excited to engage in their counting if they have more interesting items to count. As their collections get larger and they practice counting to larger numbers it's important for them to be engaged and invested in what they're doing.
