Counseling For Careers

Help me give my students the binders necessary to become successful, productive citizens by participating in the weekly advisement period our district provides.

My Students

Our school, a K-8 building, is located in a rural setting with a high percentage of low socioeconomic status. Over 50% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

The majority of our student population is from single parent homes, blended families, or transient and have attended multiple schools.

They benefit from bonding with an advisor they can confide in. We piloted an advisement program last year, and have had positive feedback from the students. Research has shown that students perform better when they feel connected to a trusted adult in the school setting.

My Project

I have requested gusseted binder pockets and binders to store the materials needed by the advisors. We have compiled resource binders to hold grade level materials for each advisor. They each receive a grade level binder to be used weekly for planning and carrying out the lessons needed for implementation of this program.

This year, we added an additional component of the program to include SEL activities.

The amount of material is too great to be individually placed in single protective sleeves and the binders we already have. Therefore, these materials will provide a more efficient way of storing the resources used by the teachers.
