Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Adding a real-world and fun touch to learning allows students to take charge of their academic success. Learning math in general and trying to implement new strategies can be difficult for students. I want to give students a different approach to learning math all while playing sports. Sports at the middle school level is an introduction to what lies ahead in their academic journey.

My students love competition and what better way to learn a new sport while also learning math?

The sport that I have chosen to introduce to my students is CornHole. CornHole is not your traditional Middle School sport. However, I have found a connection to CornHole that can also be used to teach a new math concept. Not only are the students learning a new competitive sport, but they are also able to practice their math skills as well. An important part of teaching, for me, is to make connections to the real world. To open my student's eyes and show them that math is all around us.

I have seen the excitement on my students' faces when they realize learning can be fun!
