Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students who will hopefully benefit from this project are in grades 3-6 in the second largest urban school system in Massachusetts. 97% of the students enrolled qualify for free or reduced lunch. The majority of the students are ELL (English Language Learners) and the number of students who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities and qualify for special education services exceeds local and state-wide percentages. My students persevere daily despite the lack of supplies and materials. I would love to try and even the playing field to give the quality education every child deserves.

Year after year I see my colleagues struggle to provide the adequate supplies, equipment, and professional development necessary to compete effectively in today's technology-driven educational environment without the benefit of the funding to meet our student's needs.
The current trend in teaching is fast outpacing many urban school districts. We are constantly asked to do more with fewer resources.
My goal is to even the playing field for my students in order to prepare them to compete with districts who's funding allows them to provide their students with the necessary materials and tools to be successful in the 21st century. We are making small steps forward however still have a long way to go compared to most of our suburban neighbors.

So while I realize that many educators and/or community members may take Photocopy paper for granted I am attempting to relay to prospective donors the importance of these materials.
